O cruzeiro prosseguiu normalmente, mantendo uma atitude e procedimentos seguros, sem turbulencias ou qualquer incidente. A velocidade de cruzeiro mantinha-se estável, a 255kts. As condições meteorológicas em altitude, conforme registado no simulador, mostravam temperatura externa de -52°C, mas isso é algo que não afeta diretamente o voo, pois o A320 está preparado para tais condições. A transição para a descida, iniciada pelo TOD (Top Of Descent) a 36465 pés, foi perfeitamente efetuada com o auxilio do piloto automático, e o planejamento de descida, que incluía ajustes nos flaps, foi executado conforme o previsto.
A aproximação ao aeroporto do Funchal foi onde ocorreram alguns desvios inesperados. A visibilidade na simulação continuou a ser reportada a 0km, algo bastante irreal. O Comandante começou a realizar procedimentos de aproximação, ajustando os flaps e fazendo a descida, a uma velocidade de aproximação não muito adequada. A baixa visibilidade gerou uma série de acções do piloto que acabaram por resultar em dois "stalls" (perda de sustentação). Isto demonstra falta de experiencia ou atenção durante a fase de aproximação, pois o desequilíbrio que levou à perda da sustentação pode ter acontecido por ajustes bruscos, gerando uma angulação de ataque demasiado elevada. O automático foi desligado e o Piuzorio conseguiu recuperar a sustentação em ambos os casos, mas isso gerou preocupações acerca da qualidade da aterragem que se seguiu.
A aterragem foi dura, com uma carga G de 1,41g, demonstrando uma forte aceleração vertical durante o toque da aeronave na pista. Isto pode ser atribuido a uma velocidade demasiado elevada de aproximação ou por uma não gestão correta da configuração de aterragem. A velocidade de aterragem excessiva é uma preocupação que implica risco para os passageiros. Os spoilers foram acionados, a aeronave parou com segurança, e o Piuzorio concluiu o voo de forma segura, sem mais incidentes, mas com duas preocupações a considerar para um próximo voo: a gestão da aproximação e a velocidade de aterragem. No final, embora o pouso tenha sido mais severo do que o ideal, o Comandante conseguiu realizar a aterragem em segurança, embora o log demonstre uma aterragem mais dura que o normal.
